Rear trunk inspection in Al Quoz
Tesla Trunk Repair and Replacement in Dubai
A trunk that will not close, drops while open or leaks water needs the right repair. Our independent Al Quoz workshop assesses the latch, supports, powered equipment and panel before recommending repair or replacement. Request a written fitted quote so you can compare the work, parts and total before approval.
Confirm the failed component before ordering a lid.
Request the parts, paint, fitting and VAT-inclusive total in writing.

Start with the condition
Does your Tesla need a new trunk lid?
A failed latch does not automatically mean a damaged lid. A dent does not automatically mean the panel must be replaced.
Keep the lid when suitable
A serviceable panel may only need a confirmed latch, switch, support, wiring or seal fault addressed. A suitable shallow dent with intact paint may qualify for Tesla paintless dent removal.
Access, panel material, paint condition and the applicable Tesla repair procedure determine whether panel repair is appropriate.
Replace when repair is unsuitable
Severe distortion, torn metal, damaged mounting areas or a repair outside the permitted procedure can require replacement. The surrounding body opening also needs assessment after an impact.
A replacement lid alone will not correct damage in the hinges, rear body or latch mounting area.
Call before moving the car
Unsafe closure or falling lid
If the lid does not latch securely, stop using it and arrange safe inspection or transport. Keep people clear of a lid that will not stay open. Do not use a rope, extra weight or an improvised prop as a repair.
Describe the pattern
Intermittent release or water entry
Record the warning, when it started and any recent bodywork, wash or impact. Remove loose belongings when safe. A photo of the first wet area is more useful than guessing that the perimeter seal has failed.
Know what the amount covers
Trunk repair costs and replacement quotes
A component repair, eligible dent removal and a complete lid replacement have different costs. The dent prices below cover PDR only. For a lid or hatch replacement, request a vehicle-specific total covering the part, paint, fitting and checks.

For replacement ask for these lines
- Diagnosis and damage assessmentConfirm any inspection charge and what happens if you decline the repair.
- Exact lid and other required partsIdentify the part, condition, supplier and items supplied with it.
- Preparation and paintState refinishing, materials and any adjacent blending separately.
- Removal, transfer and fittingInclude necessary hardware, seals and component transfers.
- Checks and the final totalList operational and leak checks, any additional work, VAT and the complete fitted AED amount.
A bare panel listing is not a complete replacement price. Confirm parts availability and the repair schedule before approving the job.

Identify the failed part
Opening faults need their own diagnosis
- Latch or release problem
- Describe whether the lid fails to release, clicks without opening, or closes without latching. Check the mechanism and controls before assuming the lid itself is at fault.
- Lid drops or powered movement stops
- Supports, powered hardware, wiring and alignment are separate possibilities. Do not force repeated powered cycles or use an improvised prop beneath the lid.
- Water or wind noise
- Trace the entry point and inspect seals, fit and surrounding areas. Replacing a seal or lid without locating the cause may leave the problem unresolved.
Tesla documents separate trunk components and model-specific procedures. The Model 3 trunk replacement procedure covers component transfers, applicable seam sealing and alignment. The correct procedure depends on your build.
Find the entry point
Water in the trunk does not prove the lid needs replacing
Where the water enters matters. The assessment should distinguish rain entering an open trunk from a leak through a closed lid, its seals or nearby bodywork.
Trace the leak before choosing parts
Describe whether moisture follows rain, washing or opening the lid. Inspection can include the lid seams, lamp-area seals, perimeter seal and panel fit as relevant to the vehicle. A seal replacement should follow a finding, not a guess.
Check the repaired area before handover
Agree a suitable leak check and any drying or further inspection needed. Document remaining moisture or affected components. Avoid covering seams with household sealant or dismantling trim to try a repair yourself.
Tesla documents a trunk-lid resealing procedure for certain Model 3 vehicles. Its application requires vehicle-specific confirmation. It is not proof that every wet trunk has the same cause or needs the same repair.
Compare like for like
A bare lid and a complete assembly are different purchases
Bare replacement panel
The quoted item may be only the shell. Paint, trim, latch, release switch, camera, wiring, lamps and mounting hardware may need transfer or separate replacement, depending on the vehicle.
Ask which existing parts can be retained and which are damaged. An attractive panel price can leave substantial work outside the quotation.
Assembly with fitted components
“Complete” must be defined in writing. Included equipment, glass on hatch applications, condition and compatibility can differ between listings.
Confirm whether the part is new genuine, aftermarket or used. Ask about fitment, damage history where relevant, return conditions and the written parts and workmanship warranty.
New genuine lid
Match the prescribed part and revision. Confirm whether it arrives as a bare panel, what preparation is required and which components need transfer. Genuine supply does not remove the need for alignment and fitting checks.
Identified aftermarket lid
Ask for the manufacturer and vehicle application. Check material, mounting points, finish preparation and return terms. A broad model label or an OEM-style description does not establish genuine Tesla origin.
Used lid or hatch
Check corrosion, previous repairs, distortion, mounting damage and included equipment. Confirm return rights and parts coverage. A matching paint color does not guarantee that the finish or fit will match your car.
Match the actual vehicle. Model 3 lids and Model S, X or Y rear hatches are different applications. Model year, production changes, market specification and manual or powered equipment matter. Share the VIN privately when needed to confirm parts.
The installed closure matters
Model and equipment change the repair
Model 3 rear lid
Identify the build and manual or powered equipment. The rear lid is separate from the rear glass. A latch, support or control fault can need component work while the panel remains serviceable.
Model S Model X and Model Y hatch
A rear hatch can involve glass, powered hardware, wiring and transferred equipment. Confirm what the supplied assembly contains and what your vehicle requires before comparing prices.
Opening to a lower height is not always a failed actuator. A powered hatch can have a saved opening height or detect an obstruction. Tell the workshop about changed settings, added accessories and when the fault began. Follow the instructions for the actual vehicle; do not force movement or change settings to hide a fault.
From damage to handover
A repair plan before parts are ordered
For impact damage beyond the lid, use the broader Tesla body repair service to assess the surrounding structure and panels together.
Inspect the closure and body opening
Record the complaint, visible damage, panel gaps, latch operation and related equipment. Photographs help start the discussion but cannot establish hidden damage.
Agree the repair route
Compare a component repair, a permitted panel repair and replacement where appropriate. Confirm the parts, paint scope, total and lead time.
Fit and finish the agreed work
Follow the applicable vehicle procedure, including specified hardware, component transfers, seam sealing and finish preparation where required. Check alignment before completing the finish. Newly discovered damage needs an updated quote before extra work.
Review the result together
Check closure, opening, fit and relevant electrical functions. For water ingress, agree how the repaired area will be checked and document any remaining concerns.
Check cover before paid repairs
Recall and warranty checks can change your next step
Share the warning and vehicle details before authorizing work. Manufacturer coverage and the workshop repair warranty are separate matters.
Rear camera failure on an earlier Model 3
Tesla lists a trunk-lid harness recall for affected 2017 to 2020 Model 3 vehicles. The documented issue concerns wear in the rear-camera cable from repeated trunk movement. Check your VIN and contact Tesla for the applicable remedy before paying for unrelated lid replacement. Model year alone does not establish eligibility.
Compare written repair coverage
Ask what the parts and workmanship warranty covers, its duration, exclusions and claim process. For used or customer-supplied parts, confirm whether diagnosis, removal and refitting are covered. No universal warranty period is assumed.
Three common requests
Compare three common repair situations
These examples describe possible repairs, not completed customer jobs. Inspection determines the actual work and final quotation.
A small dent with intact paint
A Model 3 lid has a shallow localized dent with no opening fault. Assess paintless repair first. The example covers one eligible small dent only, with no repaint, new parts or impact damage.
An undamaged lid that will not release
Diagnose the latch, switch, wiring and control response. Quote the confirmed component and fitting. Replacing the entire lid is not the starting assumption.
A distorted lid after a rear impact
Inspect the body opening and mounting points. If replacement is required, price the correctly matched panel or assembly, paint, transfers, fitting and checks as one defined job.
Collection and aftercare
Check more than the paint finish
- Operation Review release, opening, closing and secure latching without forcing the lid.
- Fit Look at panel gaps, contact with surrounding trim and the finished surfaces.
- Equipment Check affected cameras, lights and powered functions where fitted.
- Sealing Review the agreed leak check if water ingress was part of the job.
Follow the supplied paint and seal care instructions. Keep the seal area clear of debris. Report fresh water entry, rubbing, repeated reopening or a closure warning promptly.
Ask for the invoice, parts description and written warranty terms at handover.

Send the right request
Rear trunk or front trunk?
This service page covers the rear lid or hatch and its related closure faults. The front trunk sits beneath the hood and uses different parts and procedures.
Send one photo showing the whole affected closure and closer views of damage or gaps. Add the model, year, warning message and whether it opens, stays open and latches.
For water ingress, explain when it appears and where you first notice moisture. For a powered fault, describe what happens when you use the normal release control. Do not recreate an unsafe movement to record a video.
How much does Tesla trunk replacement cost?
A full replacement needs a vehicle-specific fitted quote. The published dent-repair benchmarks apply only to eligible PDR, not a new lid or powered mechanism repair. Ask for the exact panel or assembly, paint, component transfers, fitting, completion checks and VAT-inclusive total. Confirm additional damage and written warranty separately.
Can a dented Tesla trunk lid be repaired?
Sometimes. Paint condition, metal damage, access and the applicable Tesla repair procedure determine suitability. Paintless repair may suit an eligible dent. Severe damage or a repair outside the permitted procedure can require replacement.
Does a trunk that will not open need a new lid?
Not necessarily. A latch, release control, wiring or powered mechanism fault can occur with a sound panel. Diagnosis should identify the failed component before a replacement lid is ordered.
Will a replacement arrive painted with all parts included?
Do not assume so. Ask whether the quote covers a bare shell or an assembly and list its included components. Paint, glass where applicable, trim, wiring and transferred equipment may change the total.
Can I drive with a trunk closure warning?
First confirm whether the lid is securely latched. Do not drive with an unsecured or unsupported closure. Call with the symptoms and arrange an appropriate inspection or transport plan rather than repeatedly forcing it shut.
Can you complete replacement on the same day?
Timing depends on inspection, the correct parts, paint preparation and curing, transfers and final checks. Ask for a confirmed schedule after the scope and availability are established. A photograph cannot guarantee same-day completion.
Can you upgrade a manual trunk to powered operation?
A retrofit is a separate job from repairing a failed mechanism or replacing a damaged panel. Confirm vehicle eligibility, equipment, installation and warranty before buying a kit. A powered conversion is not suitable for every build and does not correct body damage.
Can a rear camera problem come from the trunk wiring?
Yes, a trunk harness fault is one possible cause on applicable vehicles, but a missing image does not prove the harness has failed. Tesla has a VIN-specific Model 3 harness recall. Check eligibility and have the cause confirmed before buying a camera, harness or lid.
Can you provide a quote for insurance?
Tell the workshop that the repair may involve an insurer and ask what estimate and damage documentation can be provided. Confirm your insurer’s requirements and approval before authorizing work. An inquiry does not establish claim coverage.
