The 12V range is an indicative replacement estimate. Confirm the battery, fitting labour, any separate diagnostic charge and VAT in the written quote before authorising work. Recovery or a mobile visit, if arranged, may be charged separately.
Comparing quotes? Check the battery specification and complete fitted total. A general battery advert or an inspection fee may cover a different part or a different amount of work.
The right battery matters
12V or lithium low voltage?
Not every Tesla uses a conventional 12-volt battery. Both systems support the vehicle’s low-voltage electronics, but their voltage, connections and replacement procedures differ.
Earlier lead-acid systems
Earlier Model 3 and Model Y vehicles, along with older Model S and Model X generations, can use a 12V lead-acid battery. The replacement must match the vehicle’s required specification and fitment.
Later lithium systems
Later vehicles can use a lithium low-voltage battery, often described as a 16V system. For example, current Model 3 specifications list 15.5V. A conventional 12V battery is not a direct substitute.
Check the actual vehicle
Model names and registration years alone do not establish compatibility. Production changes mean two cars with the same model badge can need different batteries.
If the touchscreen works, look under Controls → Software → Additional Vehicle Information for the low-voltage battery type. We use the VIN and fitted battery details to confirm the correct part before ordering.
Separate from the traction battery

What to do next
Read the warning first
The exact message matters more than a general description of a “battery fault”. Photograph the alert when safe, including its code, and tell us whether the vehicle unlocks and can select Drive.
Replacement is requested
An alert asking you to replace the low-voltage battery needs prompt service. On applicable vehicles, VCFRONT_a182 or VCBATT_a182 indicates degraded low-voltage battery performance. The message may also explain that software updates cannot complete until the battery is replaced.
The car is shutting down
A shutdown or pull-over instruction needs immediate attention. For example, VCFRONT_a191 means the low-voltage system cannot provide the support needed to continue driving. Pull over safely and arrange assistance instead of driving to the workshop.
Locked out or unable to wake the car? This can happen even when the main battery shows charge. Call with your location and symptoms so we can discuss safe access and roadside assistance. Battery recovery and replacement procedures depend on the fitted system.
Check the cause
A flat battery needs assessment
A low-voltage warning, an unresponsive screen or intermittent electrical behaviour does not always identify the same fault. Replacing a battery without checking why it discharged can leave the original problem unresolved.
We assess the battery and its connections, review the alerts and check whether the vehicle is supporting the low-voltage system correctly. Repeated discharge can require further investigation of wiring, electrical loads or the charging support system.
When replacement makes sense
A degraded battery or a confirmed replacement alert points toward a new, correctly specified unit. A deeply discharged lead-acid battery can lose capacity even if it later accepts charge.
When another check comes first
A discharged lithium low-voltage battery may need assessment for recovery before deciding on replacement. A charging support or connection fault may also need repair. We explain the finding and any additional cost before extending the work.

From diagnosis to handover
The job should finish with a correctly fitted battery and relevant checks, not simply a cleared warning.
Identify and assess
Confirm the battery system, inspect its condition and review the reported fault. Agree the replacement or further diagnostic work.
Confirm the part
Match the genuine Tesla replacement part to the vehicle. Confirm availability, the fitted quote and applicable warranty terms.
Replace and configure
Follow the vehicle-specific access and isolation procedure, fit the battery and complete any required configuration or learning routine.
Check and explain
Recheck relevant warnings and normal wake-up and electrical functions. Explain any remaining issue and the work recorded on your invoice.
How long should you allow? Contact us before travelling so we can check the part and appointment availability. Diagnosis, vehicle access and any software steps affect the collection time. A straightforward replacement and a car with repeated electrical faults will not need the same appointment.
How long does a Tesla 12V battery last?
There is no single replacement interval that fits every Tesla. Battery chemistry, condition and discharge history matter. Arrange an assessment when a replacement warning appears or the car develops repeated low-voltage problems rather than relying only on the battery’s age.
Will charging the car fix the warning?
The high-voltage system normally supports the low-voltage system, but plugging in does not repair a degraded auxiliary battery. If the car specifically requests low-voltage battery replacement, book an assessment. If it will not wake or start charging, request assistance with the fitted battery system.
Can I fit any 12V battery?
No. Chemistry, dimensions, terminals, electrical specification and vehicle configuration must match. A battery that physically fits is not necessarily suitable. We use genuine Tesla replacement parts and confirm the required part before ordering; do not assume a lead-acid-to-lithium conversion is a simple upgrade.
Does replacement need coding?
The required setup depends on the battery, vehicle and software. Some replacements need configuration or a new-battery learning routine. Others have different completion steps. The technician should follow the applicable procedure rather than applying the same reset to every Tesla.
What warranty comes with replacement?
Ask us to confirm the parts and labour warranty in writing with your quote, including its duration and conditions. These repair terms are separate from the vehicle’s Tesla warranty. Keep the invoice and fitted battery details for any later enquiry.
Can you replace it at my location?
Our workshop is in Al Quoz 4. If the vehicle cannot move, call with your location, model and warning so we can confirm the available assistance. Mobile replacement, recovery, parts availability and any callout charge need to be agreed for your vehicle.
